Jaguar E-Type Flat Floor Leads H&H Classics’ Biggest Buxton Sale

H&H Classics Buxton Auction

The storied Pavilion Gardens in Buxton is about to host a landmark sale. H&H Classics, a staple at this venue for over 30 years, is holding its largest auction yet. The Autumn Sale on Wednesday, 15th October, will feature a record 167 classic, collector, and performance motorcars. This massive consignment has a combined estimated value of £2.5 million. Furthermore, 39 of the lots will be offered with ‘no reserve.’

H&H Classics Buxton Auction Breaks Records

Colette McKay, the Managing Director at H&H Classics, noted the significance of the venue. The company has successfully sold over 6,000 cars in Buxton over three decades. This represents a combined value exceeding £75 million in total sales. Reaching a record number of 167 entries for the upcoming event is quite an achievement. The team is proud of the varied mix of cars available for sale.

Star Lots at the Biggest Buxton Auction

The most valuable car to be offered is a beautiful 1961 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Series 1 ‘Flat Floor’ Roadster. This highly desirable ‘home market’ example carries a guide price of £80,000 to £90,000. It is a very early example, being the 164th right-hand drive Roadster built. Importantly, it retains its original matching chassis and engine numbers.

A very different, but equally rare, classic is also catching attention. This is a very original 1902 Arrol Johnston 10/12hp Dogcart. It is believed to be one of just eight examples remaining worldwide. The car is known to have participated in the London to Brighton run in the 1990s. Its estimate is set between £70,000 and £90,000.

Another rare piece of motoring history is a 1921 10 1/2 hp Super Sports. This car is believed to be the only surviving Super Sports model. It is thought to be one of only a handful of Horstmans built between 1914 and 1929 that still exists. This highly collectable car is estimated at £25,000 to £35,000.

Jaguar Leads the Way for the Autumn Sale

Jaguar is the most represented manufacturer at the auction, with 24 examples. Following closely behind the big cat is Mercedes-Benz, which has 15 lots listed. Among the Jaguars is a stunning 1956 Jaguar XK140 Fixed Head Coupé. This car is something of a time-warp, having been with its current family since 1965. It is also one of only 843 examples built to right-hand drive home-market specification.

Opportunities Among the No Reserve Lots

The 39 ‘no reserve’ models offer genuine opportunities for enthusiasts. This large assortment of cars provides a chance to acquire a potential bargain. Notable among these no reserve examples is a 1931 Plymouth P.A. This car features a 2.2-litre four-cylinder ‘Iron Dome’ engine. It is also a rare right-hand drive example.

The no reserve section also includes a 1967 Austin Vanden Plas Princess Limousine. This car has been under the same ownership for 48 years. Lastly, a 1998 Suzuki Super Carry TX is listed with no reserve. This model has grown in popularity due to its appearance on a recent television show. Colette confirms that these models present a real opportunity for collectors.
